Each Sport Club team nominates a member to fulfill the role as their Health and Safety Officer (HSO). The purpose of the HSO is to provide a liaison between the team and the Athletic Training Room. The primary responsibility of the HSO is to establish consistent communication with team members, coaches, and trainers regarding health and safety related issues concerning the team. The program ensures that Sport Club team will have essential safety precautions at all times and allow for a comfortable relationship for the team with the training room.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and stock the team’s medical kit
- Manage the team’s travel binder which includes accident and injury reports
- Maintain communication with coaches, captains, and health professionals
- Have CPR and First-Aid certification
- Attend monthly educational in-services with Rob Wang, the head Athletic Trainer
Create a beneficial workshop for the team that highlights health and safety
After fulfilling the requirements of the HSO program students are able to receive the Heath and Safety Certificate acknowledging their leadership in promoting health and safety awareness. Becoming an HSO is a great opportunity for valuable experience in the medical field. HSO’s can also receive academic credit for their efforts.
