This course teaches participants the essentials and difficulties of being in the surf zone while kayaking. Participants learn techniques for launching and landing in the surf, as well as how to keep stability while kayak surfing.
The class will begin with a beach talk that will cover wave formation, reflecting and refracting waves, and surf zone safety precautions. This four-hour class will give participants the opportunity to practice maneuvering skills.
The fee includes instruction and kayaking equipment. Kayak I, or the equivalent, and the ability to swim are both prerequisites. It is also recommended that participants take the kayak rolling class before the surf zone class so participants have more options in the surf; however is it not a prerequisite.
Wet suits are required, but not provided. Rental information is available once you sign up for the class.
